November 9th, 2008 by nothingiswritten

Drug abusers are out of control. Drug abusers need help to get to detox and rehab. So why do family members wait for their loved ones to take themselves to rehab?

Often family members say, “He doesn’t want help”, or “She has to want it first”.

But how do drug abusers or alcoholics get to wanting help? The first basic steps to getting them to accepting help are unknown or not taken by family members of drug abusers. Here are those missing steps to recovery.

Drug & alcohol abusers make issues about needing help and Alaska Lemon Laws to rehab. Getting an addicted loved one to accept help for problems with drugs is possible, if you know the steps to take. Working through conflicts with help speeds getting someone to recovery.

What is help?

Help is assistance, benefit, cooperation, aid, nurture, etc. Good help requires good control.

A person with ongoing drug or alcohol abuse issues has failed to help themselves. These losses can add up. Now they may believe help is not even possible. Failure = failed help.

First Five Steps To Drug & Alcohol Rehab That Works

First: are you offering Band-Aids instead of Intensive Care? If so, the seriousness of drug abuse and underlying actual problem has not been confronted and failure was inevitable.

Some people have even been instructed not to call a rehab center for a loved one suffering with an addiction. They somehow expect a miracle. Here’s the truth: miracles occur in rehab and detox centers. Waiting for a miracle before rehab is waisting opportunities.

Intelligent planning and action will get you that miracle faster than idle hope.

Successful rehab centers’ staff works with individuals to locate underlying and unhandled problems in living. Finding and handling actual problems is worth a great deal. When that is done, real help gets delivered and the cause of addiction ends. Confronting and being encouraged to deal with drug and alcohol abuse and real life requires extra help from others, new skills and abilities.

Second: Sometimes, the family needs to be brought on board, so that everyone is on the same playing field, helping the addict to recovery. By the way, enabling drug addicts by paying their debts and rent isn’t help. Listening and learning more about intervention (bottom link) will move you forward in your understanding of addiction and intervention.

Third: Sometimes one has to start at the most basic level of understanding before getting the person to consider they have a problem and give a commitment to rehab. The easiest way to breach drug abuse with another is to suggest they really cut back or quit alcohol or drug use or read our web page or ask how much money they are spending on drugs & alcohol per week.

Do you see that your actions are being required here? These are action you take. Nowhere do I say, ‘wait for the addict to ask for treatment or help’.

Forth: If they are willing to accept help today they will require assistance in getting to an effective drug detox and rehab program. You’ll probably have to take them to rehab and help with admittance. Many of the detox and rehab centers I know of cost money and addicts and money aren’t usually together for very long.

Fifth: If you’ve been struggling with an addict’s denials, realize that you’ve been misapplying your intervention attempts. You are probably trying to do the job of a trained professional interventionist, and you haven’t been getting the results required.

Trained professional interventionists can successfully getting a person accepting help. But, if hiring a professional is not financially possible you will need to learn everything you can about intervention. We’ve solved that problem for you. I’ve worked with many interventionists and the process of getting someone to rehab is something YOU can lean.

So, help addicts get to recovery by assisting them to take their next steps. Insist they follow through with those efforts by finding detox and rehab programs that deliver up on what they promise. That means the rehab program produces results — drug-free productive people who contribute to their families and society.

It’s Not All About Money

November 7th, 2008 by nothingiswritten

I was told a story the other day while I was in the midst of racking up surfing credits, answering e-mails, packing orders, answering the phone. I almost didn’t listen to it at first, but suddenly I was quiet and gave the storyteller my full attention. The story went like this:

A nurse took a tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside of an old man, who was desperately ill and not expected to make it through the night..

“Your son cancer car donation here,” she said to the old man.

She had to repeat the words several times before the patient’s eyes opened.

Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man’s limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.

The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed. All through the night, the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man’s hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile.

He refused. Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital - the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients.

Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night.

Along towards dawn, the old man died. The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she had to do, he waited.

Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her.

“Who was that man?” he asked.

The nurse was startled, “He was your father,” she answered.

“No, he wasn’t,” the Marine replied. “I never saw him before in my life.”

“Then why didn’t you say something when I took you to him?”

“I knew right away there had been a mistake, but I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn’t here. When I realized that he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, knowing how much he needed me, I stayed.”

How much we can learn from this compassion for a stranger? The time taken out of one’s life to help another person in need. In today’s frenetic internet world where everyone is jockeying for space, it is a good thing to pause, give a helping hand to newbies.

The next time someone needs you … Just be there. Stay.

How to Install New Pickups on a Strat-Type Guitar

November 6th, 2008 by nothingiswritten

I recently upgraded my Yamaha Pacifica 112 guitar with Dimarzio pickups and I thought about making a detailed account here about the project.

So, here’s a step-by-step account on how to remove the stock pickups and install new pickups on a Stratocaster-type guitar, based on how I installed the Dimarzio pickups (DP100 Super Distortion: bridge, DP116 HS-2: middle, DP217 YJM: neck) on my strat-clone. Here it goes!

1. Loosen the strings but don’t remove them from the tuning pegs. When it’s loose enough, remove the neck mounting screws and carefully detach the neck from the body.

* This will save time when putting it all back together, using the same strings. On the other hand, if you’re going to put new strings anyway, then just remove the strings and don’t bother removing the neck.

2. After putting the neck aside, detach the “volume”, “tone” and selector switch caps. Once removed, the volume pot, tone pot and selector switch can now be detached from the pickguard.

3. Remove the pickguard screws.

4. Detach the stock pickups from the pickguard.

5. To totally remove the stock pickups, look for the 3 lugs under the selector switch where the 3 stock pickups are connected. When found, de-solder the 3 “hot” wires from the stock pickups.

* Before de-soldering, try to remember or label mortgage home refinance LUG IS FOR WHICH POSITION (bridge, middle or neck).

6. De-solder the ground wires of the 3 stock pickups from the back of volume potentiometer.

* Now the stock pickups are completely detached. Set them aside or store them in a box for safekeeping.

7. Attach the replacement pickups to their respective positions in the pickguard.

8. Check the wiring diagram for the color coding of the new pickup. Usually the new Dimarzios have 5 wires with the following colors: red, green, black, white and a bare wire. (For me, I used the full humbucker *series* wiring for all three Dimarzio pickups). Solder tips of the black and white wires together then wrap tightly with electrical tape.

9. Solder the green and bare wires together then solder properly to the back of the volume pot for grounding. Be sure to use higher wattage soldering iron ( >45 watts ) in order for the soldering lead to stick and make a good connection.

10. Solder the red “hot” wire from the pickup to its the corresponding position in the selector switch lug as mentioned in Step#5.

11. Repeat Steps #9 and #10 for the other two pickups.

* After all soldering jobs, be sure to conduct a visual inspection on all soldering connections. All connections should be secure and solid.

12. Return the “volume” pot, “tone” pot and selector switch to their rightful places. Be sure to properly attach their screws securely. Re-place the pots and switch caps.

13. Re-place the pickguard and attach screws on the guitar body. Check for stray wires that may stick out. All wires should stay inside the guitar cavity.

14. Re-attach the neck to the guitar body’s neck joint, then screw tightly.

There you go. Just a simple injury claims procedure anyone can do at home. Hope this helps!

In-Depth Automotive Review - 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid - Are The Results Worth The Money?

November 5th, 2008 by nothingiswritten

Over the last six months, I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how I can better my fuel economy in a large SUV. While consumers are expecting impossible solutions to achieve the 25-30 mpg by any means necessary, I found it hard to tell them to do this, or to install that, or just don’t do these things. And full knowing I know that the overall improvement on the bottom line car donations only 10% better, very little change to make it worthwhile and could be costly. The Chevrolet Tahoe has been one of the quintessential niche vehicles in GM’s line up, and it’s easily important to further research new, innovative ways to further keep themselves in contention when it came to expensive gasoline or thrilling competition. When I heard through the grapevine that a 2-mode hybrid system was going to be making its way into these benchmark SUV’s, I just had to research more and find out if what it had to offer was worth the king’s ransom. I drive the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid and get the full array of details the consumers must know.

At first, I could not help but notice the amount of hybrid decals the Tahoe was sporting. Apparently, GM is trying to get the word out in a big way, if it were up to me, I would send mine to the detail shop to get them removed. There are noticeable details that set this model out from the rest. The front bumper and bumper have been modified for better aerodynamics. This one has 20″ wheels that are an exclusive feature and puts this Tahoe apart from the rest. Additionally, this one has LED taillights, resculptured panels and more plastic pieces to fit into the lightweight design. It was a Tahoe, but very much distinguishable against an army or 50 other Tahoe models.

The difference maker is what is inside, the technological marvel pleases with a hybrid system that works together in harmony. Hybrid Tahoe’s are naturally equipped with a 6.0L V8 with a continuously variable transmission, 2 81hp electric motors, and a 300-volt nickel hydride battery system. Let’s see how it all works together.

The 2wd LT2 model I drove was quiet starting. It used a combination of motors and engine power on the start up and quieted down with only motor power on idle. As I shifted into drive, the first 7-15 mph was quiet, sounded like a golf cart. And as I accelerated further, the engine kicked in and it is easily known by the navigation interface and exhaust sound. This interface is neat, it made knowing what mode I was in a snap by using easy, colorful pictures to show me all the specifics. Also, this was great as it taught me to be more frugal on foot power and try to drive in a more economical fashion. The total engine power didn’t disappoint either, it was fluid and seamless. The continuous transmission was slick, I didn’t feel the gear shifts or throttle kickdown as the electric motors filled in those gaps. It is with this power that the Tahoe Hybrid can still tow an unbelievable 7000 lbs, fascinating! With the interface, there is also an economy gauge and an instant fuel economy meter in the driver information center that gave me all the pertinent info. In my 50+ mile trip, I averaged about 17.8 mpg, this considering I was flogging the accelerator quite often.

So with all the use of power, exactly how does the Tahoe Hybrid regenerate itself? First of all, this is not a “plug in hybrid”, its regeneration comes from the braking system. As we slow down, the motors recharge the batteries using the regenerative braking system, a very smart and innovative feature. This made maintenance a non-issue and was very easy to understand from the get go. The batteries are hidden under the second row seating, I had to literally ask the sales consultant where it was, hidden very well. I also found out that there are some features (power lift gate, power release second row seats) you can’t get on this hybrid that other Tahoes have, more or less for weight savings.

All in all, the Tahoe Hybrid didn’t boast huge fuel economy gains, I wasn’t too deeply impressed, but I had to look at the overall picture. This is of course the large SUV arena, so any new trends at this point is certainly welcome. Basic 2WD LT2models start in the neighborhood of $48k and go up from there depending on how fancy consumers get. The base model comes stacked however with nav, leather appointed seating, bose, very nice indeed. This hybrid system is expensive, it does all the right things very nicely, consumers just have to decide whether it is the money they want to invest in such a bulbous automobile. A great move and Antipsychotic Therapy in the right direction for GM, will this new technology make its way into other GM vehicles? It would be a smart idea…

My Spiritual Friend - Misty

November 1st, 2008 by nothingiswritten

On a cold morning in March 2008, as enterprise web hosting was on my way to catch a bus to work, I slipped on a patch of ice and broke my right arm. After taking myself to a local emergency room and coming home in a sling and pain pills I came home and crawled into bed to wait for my husband to come home. In all my 50 years I’ve never had a broken bone in my body, so the pain was intense, and new to me. As soon as I was settled, surrounded by pillows my cat, Misty came on the bed.

She knew something was wrong because I was home before my usual time coming home from work. She circled round and round finally settling next to my broken arm. She gently licked my hand and started rubbing my arm purring away. Although I could not pat her, she stayed with me until my husband arrived home for work shortly after midnight. At night after Steve came home she’d go off to eat, then come back to bed and snuggle between us. As I became stronger, I moved to the couch and Misty came to. Monday’s Are Still OK

October 27th, 2008 by nothingiswritten

I think a lot, anti depressants as I think about Mondas, I am still unsure why we look at structured settlement consumer info one day cure for impotence than the other six. Days are gifts. Ask a terminally ill person.

This post is a follow-up to an earlier article about Mondays, and I have added some thoughts as a way of getting us to think even more. You’ll find it’s not really about a day at all.

Communication. The word itself is foreign to many. It strikes fear into the hearts of some. We walk around in the midst of people and we have our head down with our ipod turned up as loud as we can take it, all the while feeding our minds with whatever that sound emits. And we miss our chances… chances to interact, chances to be available, chances to make a person feel valued.

I remember being in New York City a few years back. My wife Cornelia and I were walking down toward the theatre district. We were there with our friends Leisa, Yolanda, and Kim. At this time however, we were alone. We have traveled extensively, and there is a familiar scene that you cannot overlook, especially later in the evening or first thing in the morning. Them. What you and I see are referred to as “them.”

We have always been aware of the destitute. Some refer to them as “them” even today. You’ve seen them. Those who live on the streets for whatever reason. I have come to appreciate and recognize their unique dependence on kindness. This dependence is a result, I believe, of the absolute possibility that kindness from someone, at some point, somehow might have opened their eyes to hope. It is never too late to offer hope to one who needs it.

We were walking and we came upon a little withered, bent over woman who spoke no English. She was disheveled, desperate, and cold. It was the dead of winter and she wore no more than a tattered sweater over a long dress. I watched as my wife bent down with her and took her red hands in hers. She immediately removed her fancy gloves and helped the startled woman into them. The woman smiled and rubbed her hands warmly as we fell all over ourselves to cure for impotence her some money.

I have witnessed many acts of kindness. I have participated in my own. I have watched my son repeat, with precision, something I know he witnessed his father doing. I am alive with the knowledge that we hold the keys (goodness and truth) to the kingdom of heaven. We each have one of our very own. A key that is. This key is a divinely-inspired place that resides in each of us. It is actually aching to be utilized. It is purposeful, and I am convinced that with each act of goodness and truth, we bring ourselves closer to God and ever closer to using our key.

Peace — jb
