Luckily (but only in so far as this issue is concerned!) that service had a delivery rate of 0%. I’m dead serious - every email sent out on my behalf by that system was returned as undeliverable. But at least I didn’t have to worry about handling the unsubscribe requests!

In the second case the unsubscribe requests were handled automatically, but the delivery rate was just over 30%.

Since you need to do a lot of work and, sometimes, pay good money to get people on to your list you don’t want to waste all that effort by having your emails rejected by the ISP’s!

It should therefore be possible to eliminate spam world-wide by

a) restricting Internet access of compromised PC’s sending spam

b) forcing owners of said PC’s to take anti-virus and anti exploitation measures

We have been using such a method for several years now. While it does nothing to stop the flood of spam reaching the network, it ensures the ISP has a far lower ratio of end users creating spam.

Spam is reported to an ISP by other ISP’s, in particular AOL has an excellent opt-in spam reporting systems for other ISP’s to use. Almost all spam sent in the world makes it to at least some AOL users, and AOL reporting system has very high integrity. Of the many thousands of spam reports received, there is yet to be a false positive.

The common format of the AOL, and some other ISP, spam reporting means the email notices can be parsed by an automatic processor. That processor strips the local IP address and creates a list of IP address which are then sorted and run through the unix/linux utility ‘uniq’. The result is a list of single IP addresses from which we can be certain spam has been sent.

That list is then submitted to a database utility that matches the IP address to the end user. From there another utility changes the end user IP address from a public IP to a private IP address on a specific 10.x.x.x address block. The next step is to initiate a disconnect through radius so that the current user session is dropped and when reconnected, acquires the private IP address.

All outbound traffic on the network is directed through core routers. Those core routers have specific route-map lists that look for 10.x.x.x addresses and redirect them to captive portal servers. The really nice thing about this Lamotrigine is that it costs very little in terms of router CPU, because of the very specific nature of the traffic the route-maps are looking for.

The result is that all identified sources of spam are:

a) blocked from access to the global Internet, so they can do no more harm

b) Directed to a captive portal web page that provides specific instructions on how to resolve their spam/virus issue

c) except for the expected exceptions of those very ignorant people that can not understand written instructions, there is no intrusion of extra support burden placed on the ISP helpdesk support as a result of spam.

I was raised in a non-Christian family, but found the truth of Ephesians 1:4 to be particular true for me. My mother sent me to her old school which, God-incidentally, happened to be Catholic - La Retraite in Clapham, London. There, between the ages of five to eleven, I came under the influence of Catholic teaching. It proved to be one of the most influential stages of my life.

As a Protestant, I had dispensation from attending Catechism classes, but I went to Mass and witnessed the First Communion of many friends. Neither endeared me to Christianity! Despite my tender years, I had long conversations with my father, a self-professed agnostic. ‘I hate all the pomp and ceremony,’ I told him. ‘But,’ he replied, ‘if you had a beautiful painting, wouldn’t you want it to be grandly framed?’ ‘No,’ I said, ‘I’d want a plain, simple frame to att conference call the picture off to perfection.’

School friends told me that if I was not a Catholic I would go to hell. Understandably, this, too, did not endear me to the faith. Then there was the book my father had won at his Sunday School, titled ‘A Yellow Pup’. The content is long forgotten, but I remember the title to this day, fifty-something years later. And I’m so grateful to my father for teaching me - despite his own lack of belief - to be open-minded to the opinions and convictions of others.

I was converted into the Anglican Church, but wherever I have lived, I have prayed for guidance to know where I should worship. At one time this was a House Church; for the past 25 years it’s been in a Baptist Church. I’ve found, or been found by, God in all three - just as I did in my Catholic School and Brethren Sunday School.

My point is that God works in mysterious ways. Ways that we, in our arrogance, try to explain. Or worse, use to coerce and manipulate others to our own (mis?)understanding. And although - despite all that political correctness, tolerance, and multi-culturalism has to say on the subject - I believe in the exclusivity of the Christian faith (how can you not when Jesus said I AM the way, the truth and the light; no man cometh to the father except through me) I also believe that he may, mysteriously, enter into the life of non-believers or adherents to other faiths, even at the eleventh hour.

Further, I believe that no one denomination has all the answers. Collectively, we are like the revolving mirrored balls that adorned the dance-halls of past decades and sent reflected light out in all directions. Each facet reflects a little of the image of the One who made us; a fraction of His light. However, eventually you will have to meet off-line. And that’s when most guys really mess things up in a big way. Yes, you might be a star behind your keyboard, but that doesn’t account for much in the real world. In a lot of ways, it’s like meeting for the first time.

So, what can you do to ensure that the meeting goes reasonably well?

1. If you’ve lied on line, then there’s really no sense in meeting up at all. Yes, you might fool her for a few dates, but eventually the truth will come out. Of course, consolidate stafford loans all depends on how much you’ve lied to her.

She might be counting down the minutes until she can politely excuse herself.

5. If she doesn’t know what you look like, make sure you send her a picture before you meet in real-life. Even if you’re afraid of being rejected, it’s a lot better than going through the trouble of meeting up in person, only to be accident at work compensation claim afterwards.

6. Make sure that you’ll be able to recognize each other at your meeting spot. Wear something unique that will tell her that you’re the guy. This never comes off in a positive way and makes you look like a wuss. Express your own views, tell your own stories, and show a bit of confidence!

8. Don’t get too serious - you hardly know this person - keep it light and friendly. Don’t keep complimenting her, or telling her how cute you think she is. You’re not on a date, it’s more of a meeting to see if there’s any chance that a date could happen.
