Characteristics Of Small Business Definition

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

A literature review of 23 papers, which have been published from 1958 to 2002, revealed an inconsistency regarding both characterization and definition of small business. The variety of definition used in these papers unable to set an agreeable format for small business definition. The current article objective is to suggest some guidelines that can help reduce the level of ambiguity. The method to reach that objective is through the analysis of five significant parameters that have been used by different scholars to define small business. Each of these parameters is being characterized and analyze in order to clarify the existing status and for suggesting the less ambiguous alternative for using that parameter.

First, the business must be independent: For that matter, a subsidiary or a branch can’t be considering as independent business.

Second, the business is not dominant in the industry it’s operating in: Part of ‘Monopolistic Competition’ definition can be used to characterize the parameter - There are many sellers and they believe that their actions will not materially affect their competitors.

Third, firm size (number of employees): This parameter is obviously the most popular among scholars for defining small business; nonetheless its use varies dramatically. If you’re in U.S. then an employer of up to 500 employees will still be consider as small business, contrary to U.S. in Europe most countries use the limit of 50 employees to define business as small. Taking into account that across the world ninety percent of the operating businesses are employing less then 20 employees, it seems that 50 employees is a more suitable limit. Moreover, business with more than 50 employees is employing operational and managerial techniques, which become more and more similar to those of large businesses. Characterize the upper limit brings us half way; in order for us to go all the way, lower limit should be characterize as well. A rule of thumb in that regard is that business with less then five-to-ten employees don’t even have the minimum operational and managerial structure, which can be treated as small business, any business with less then five employees is inadequate for any analysis, and should be named micro-business.

Fourth, firm age: The use of firm age by scholars meant to characterize the minimal period of time needed for a business in order to form some operational and managerial backbone, otherwise, there was a risk that data collected for statistical analysis wont be suitable. Biggadike (1979), supported by Miller and Camp Mad Money conclude that a new venture needs in average eight years for achieving profitability. The barrier of eight years should be analyzed depending on several factors, such as the industry that the firm operates in or the initial capital raise for starting the new venture. Moreover, Biggadike based his definition on the basis of the period needed to generate profitability, which is only one among numerous measures of performance. Taking all into account, a conservative estimation will be that business can be still considering as new if the period from establishment is two-to-five years.

Fifth, annual revenue: What can be considering as acceptable annual revenue for small business? In order to be able to characterize this parameter, a preliminary step of defining the industry that the business relates to must be taken. There is a substantial difference regarding the revenue in different industries. For example - Annual sales of five million dollars generate by a car dealer must be treated entirely different then when this same revenue produces by any type of consulting firm. The source of revenue is of great importance; revenue from selling goods can’t be treated as revenue from selling knowledge or labor. Subject to that remark, and for the vast majority of small businesses that operates in either manufacturing or trade (retail, wholesale) industries, annual revenue of ten million dollars can be used as proximity for characterize the upper limit. This annual revenue correlate with the upper limit of 50 employees used as characteristic for firm size.

Mage AOE Grinding Guide - Earn 1000g Per Hour Consistently in WoW Wrath of the Lich King!

Friday, June 26th, 2009

In World of Warcraft, mages are built to AOE. They are definitely the most powerful class are killing multiple mobs using area of effect (AOE) spells. I would like to teach you some basic tips for grinding and leveling with your mage. The fact that you can kill 5, 10, or even 20 to Linden mobs at a time is something that you should take advantage of with your mage class. If you are in the process of leveling a mage or want to level a mage, this article may be helpful to you.

I myself have a mage that I have played from Naxx (preBC) up until Malygos in WoW Wrath of the Lich King.

This is a simple frost mage rotation:

Get fully rested and fully buffed (I recommend using molten armor). The best way to round up mobs is to mount up. Since you are cloth wearer, it is not ideal to run around on foot while you have a bunch of mobs beating on you. You won’t be able to round up mobs quickly and you will most likely die. With that being said, mount up! You will be using your mount a lot to AOE grind, so I highly suggest you set it as a key binding or place it on your hot bar.

If your HP is too low, you can use a mana shield or ice barrier before you mount up.

To get the hang of things and to get a feel for the mobs you’re grinding, I would start with 5 to 6 mobs at a time. Once you have aggro on the mobs go ahead and ice block (which will automatically dismount you) and wait till the mobs all get within melee range of you. Once you become unfrozen from the ice block, strafe and Frost nova all of the mobs in place. Blink if you need to if you get into trouble. Before you start to AOE with blizzard, I highly suggest you pop a trinket. This will greatly increase your damage output and will help you kill the mobs a lot faster. If for some reason a mob gets away from you and is attacking you while you are AOE, use cold snap, run back to the mobs, Frost nova them all into place again, and resume blizzard. You can also use your water elemental and freeze them if you need to.

To finish the mobs off use Cone of cold and arcane explosion. The mobs should have low enough health to the point where you can kill them with one of cold.

Try to master these techniques has a mage, and you will find yourself being able to AOE up to 30 mobs at a time.

I hope you enjoyed these simple mage tips.

I have prepared a more in-depth www.wowfarmingspots.comMage AOE Grinding Guide for you. This guide will help you earn 1000 gold per hour consistently in wow Wrath of the Lich King.

Some people don’t like to just AOE grind for gold, they like to gain reputation for different factions as well. For this reason I have compiled a very in-depth www.wowfarmingspots.comDaily Quest Guide for Northrend. This is by far the best route for finishing 25 daily quests in WoW Wrath of the Lich King.

Increase Your Website Performance For Fun and Profit - Part 1

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Website performance is a hot topic these days. Research has shown that by decreasing your page load time users will spend more time on your site.

Here’s some tips on speeding up your website:

Decrease the number of requests on a page

You can do this by using sprites which are basically large, well compressed images that contain lots of other images. You then use offsets in CSS to address the individual images.

Use a third party content delivery service

This one can be hard unless you’re a large corporation but it doesn’t need to be difficult. Try hosting your photos on flickr for example.

Set to the Expires header on static content

The Apache documentation for mod_expire and other resources on setting content expiry can be handy for this.

Gzip images, CSS, script

Once again you will need to look at which web server you are using to modify this. That being said on html, CSS and js it can dramatically decrease page load time.

Load unnecessary >Script> after page load

Examples are images that won’t be used until someone hovers their mouse over them or content that can be retrieved by AJAX.

Simplify your html

If you only need one div to display a piece of content then only use one. Brush up on your HTML skills in this area.

Don’t use iframes unless necessary

Iframes are like a whole new browser window. Imagine opening 10 or 20 of them on your web page. It really slows down the user’s experience.

Try to avoid cookies, or at least keep them to a minimum

Most sites won’t need to use cookies but if you do try to keep the number and size of the cookies at a minimum as each request back to the server involves sending the cookie as well.

Don’t use CSS filters

Don’t use work arounds for old browsers like IE6. Either let them suffer or give them a message asking to upgrade.

In the second part of this article we’ll cover some more ways to get a better result out of your website.

Webslug allows you to test your www.webslug.info/website performance. You can also compare it against your competitors.

Facts on Obtaining a Short Sale

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

The first word that comes into the mind of homeowners when they are falling behind on their mortgage payments is “foreclosure”. What these homeowners don’t know is that there is another aspect that they can consider with their mortgage company when they are no longer able to pay their account current for whatever reason. This alternative is called a “short sale”. Many individuals are not aware of this alternative because there are many lenders who do not accept this option. Some lenders feel that they are loosing financially and would gain a better result going through the foreclosure process.

A short sale is an action where the lender who holds the mortgage accepts funds that are less than the payoff amount. Before a person can determine if this is an option, they should perform some research by experts who are familiar with the process of short sales. Both parties involved should speak with a lawyer to make sure all revenues and bases are covered throughout this process.

The short sale process involves both the customers who currently have the loan and the customers who are interested in obtaining a short sale. The current lenders usually require the borrowers to write a letter that will give the lenders permission to discuss the account with the appropriate parties such as: real estate agents, lawyers, closing attorney and any interested buyers. Be sure that in the letter you are specific in who can obtain this information. You want to include the name of the individuals, any parties who are interested in the short sale, the real estate agent and any lawyers that are involved as well. Along with the authorization letter an estimated closing statement should be submitted as well. This sheet will include the sale cost; the balance of the loan, any outstanding payments/late fees and if there is any commission that the real estate agent would get from the sale if they are involved. This information can be worked up by the closing attorney.

A hardship letter and proof of income is also required for the current borrowers to submit to their lender. This information is needed for the department at the bank who would be working on the short sale process. The hardship letter has no certain length but you don’t want it to be too long to where the department doesn’t feel that they should read it in it full. It should explain the situation in detail as to why you want to consider this option and the purpose of the delinquency in the payments. Some lenders may come up with other options as far as repayment plans, a modification of the loan or some deferred payments.

In determining the price that you want to submit to the lender, the interested party and real estate agent should consider the balance that is left on the loan by the current borrowers, the current market (active properties on the market, any pending properties and the properties that have sold recently), and the amount of funds that will be left for the current borrowers to pay back to the lender. The process of the short sale can take days, weeks, or even months. The offer has to be presented to the lender’s manager as well as the borrowers/agents and reach a decision as to what they will accept and if the interested parties will take.

Once the agreement has been finalized, the lender will notify the seller and interested party either via phone or letter or both. In the letter it will specify the amount of the short sale, how the funds should be received and the date it should be received back. After all paperwork is completed, the new borrowers may want to follow up with their lender and the lender it was purchased from just to make sure there were no steps left out.

Science Fair Projects Kids Will Love - What is Static Electricity?

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Here is one of our science fair projects kids enjoy a lot. It is easy and very visual. The little ones may not understand the concept of the electrons yet, but it is good to let experience it and later the explanation will make sense much easier as they are familiar with the effects already. This is an easy science fair project that is quick and easy to do!

Science fair projects kids enjoy are always those that are fun and easy to do and they do not come easier than this one! It may be an easy science fair project, but they will still learn a lot from it.

What is static electricity?

Questions you should be able to answer once you have completed this experiment:

  1. When rubbing the balloon against your sweater, what happens between the balloon and the sweater?
  2. What happens to the puffed wheat or rice when the balloon is held just above it?
  3. Why do you think the puffed wheat or rice jumps up?
  4. Why does the puffed wheat or rice only stick to the balloon for a short while?
  5. Why does the puffed wheat or rice not jump up and cling to the second balloon that you did not rub against your sweater?
  6. Why do you have to do the second part of the experiment?
  7. What is it called?
  8. What is the proper scientific method?

What you need for this experiment:

  • 2 Blown up balloons
  • A sweater
  • A bowl of puffed wheat or rice
  • A note book
  • A pen
  • A camera

The steps in your project:

  1. Rub the balloon against your sweater
  2. Hold the balloon just above the bowl with the puffed wheat or rice in it
  3. Now you take the other balloon and hold it just above the puffed wheat or rice without rubbing it on your sweater first
  4. Get someone to help you take notes through the whole project and make sure you take a photo of each step for your display

Your conclusion:

The second balloon that you do not rub against your sweater is your control. It shows you what happens if you do nothing to the balloon.

This is a very important part of the scientific method as you always have to prove that what you did made the difference and that what happened would not have happened in any case. I mean, without you doing anything. So you have to prove that the puffed wheat or rice would not have jumped up at the balloon if you did not rub it against your sweater.

When you rub the balloon against your sweater the friction causes electrons to move to the balloon causing it to be negatively laden, electrically. This will also cause the balloon to stick to your sweater. Now when you hold the balloon close to the puffed wheat or rice, it is drawn to the balloon because of its lower electrical load. Once the electrons passed from the balloon to the puffed wheat or rice, they fall back again as they are no longer drawn to the balloons. Because the puffed wheat or rice is so light it is very easy to see the effect, even when the difference is not that big.

Why Aren’t YOU A Great Hitting Coach?

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

It seemed coaching was so much simpler back when I played a long time ago. We didn’t have travel teams with 400 dollar bats and 25 thousand dollar budgets. Today there are players who have had instruction since they were 5 years old that can hit whiffle golf balls with a rake handle at 60 miles per hour. But they are still the exception.More than not you will be coaching kids that are much more accomplished at video games than staying back on a pitch. Their parents will bring them to the practice with a expensive bat and expect you to teach them how to hit like a pro in one session.

The first thing you must do to become a great hitting coach is keep things fun for the players. Please don’t be a tough guy and start yelling at the kids. You must heap on the praise when they do something right,it works very well. And try that with your own kid too, you’ll be surprised how effective it is.Keep the kids split up into groups of 3-4 to keep them from socializing too much.

Using batting helmets during all drills is a must. It will protect you as a coach as well as the donate car the players over the batters box and show them the batters box and how they have a lot of room to adjust to different pitchers. Show them what it means to move up in the box. Let them know most youth players should stand close to the plate because they can’t cover the corner with their short bats.

Here’s something most coaches don’t show beginners and it is very important.Every player, regardless of their skill level must know how to get out of the way of a pitch.I will discuss 2 ways that I teach. The first one is for fast quick agile type players.Have the player hold the bat in the hitting ready position with their hands back about to swing the bat. Now show them how to just drop the bat, and drop straight to ground face first. This is just a quick drop down with feet going straight back toward the back stop and their head toward the mound. They can break the fall a little with their hands. This method is not for everyone, usually only the smaller wiry kids like it. It is the safer method I must add, but the player must be committed to doing it.

The other method is the lazy way. I teach this method to the kids who won’t use the above tactic. If the ball is coming toward the players face, neck, or back, have them quickly turn their back to the pitch, exposing the back and ribs to the pitch, not their face. It should be pretty evident to the players where they would rather be hit. This why I prefer the other method,it can increase your odds of not being hit at all.

There is so much more to hitting, but the safety of your players should be foremost. Most parents will be very much o.k. with you teaching safety right out of the gate. So remember, keep it fun, keep the kids split up, and wear your helmets. Take them to the batter’s box and show them around. The practice avoiding pitches for a good half hour. Here is another tip. Go back and review this every few practices to keep your players ready. You never know when a pitch may come at a player’s face. It is your duty as a hitting coach to have them ready if it does.

Thanks,Coach Chip.

Affiliate Marketing Success - Three Important Keys

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Affiliate marketing is one of the personal injury attorneys Rhode Island effective–and easiest–ways to earn money online. There’s often little to no start-up investment, no physical inventory, and there is the potential of generating a lot of extra income.

Having said that, there are some things to keep in mind when entering this field. Some keys to affiliate success, if you will. Without these keys, you may just find yourself bumbling along.

Don’t fall into that trap.

There are three keys to affiliate marketing success:

  • education
  • time and effort
  • persistence

Education
At the car insurance Montana you’ll have to learn a new set of skills. SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Keyword research. Copywriting. Sales. Entrepreneurship. It can be intimidating, especially if you’ve never heard of any of those terms. But you must learn these skills in order to properly navigate the affiliate marketing waters.

Once you’ve got those skills under your belt, you’ll have to continue learning. Technology and techniques are constantly changing and the marketer Mississippi auto insurance quote thinks they’ve learned all there is to learn will be left in the dust.

Time and Effort
Too many enter this field expecting to find a magic bullet to riches. There isn’t one. Instead, the combination of time and effort spent setting up your website or blog, generating unique content, generating traffic, analyzing traffic statistics, and creating and tweaking AdWords and AdSense ads is the only sure way to those riches.

In short, time and effort equals that “evil” word–work.

As much as you might hate the word, it’s what’s required in order to achieve success.

Remember: you can’t get heat from a fireplace if you don’t put wood in it first, and then light the wood.

Persistence
There will be days when all your marketing efforts seem fruitless, when there are no leads, and worse, no revenue. It’s times like those when you just want to throw in the towel.

But success comes to the marketer who demonstrates persistence, who stays the course. Persistence means moving forward despite obstacles in your way. The difference between the successful and the unsuccessful is often the ability to push forward and take that one extra step toward a goal.

There’s a lot of competition in affiliate marketing. In order to stand out, you’ll need something that will set you apart.

These three keys will do just that.
