What Assumptions Are You Making?

Last week I was sitting alone in a café when a friend spotted me and came over for a chat. I told her cheap meridia I had arranged to meet an overseas student at 2pm but it was now a quarter past 2 and I was about to give up waiting. What I have described is the meeting of three different cultures. I am from Europe, my friend is from Africa, the student and his teacher are both from Asia. In multi-cultural environments such as Australia this is not an unusual situation and the potential for misunderstandings and cultural incidents is virtually unlimited.

In this scenario there are issues of time, relationships, rules and status with each party having a different cultural perspective. When we say 3 o’clock, it could be interpreted as a precise time or somewhere between lunch and dinner, perhaps tea time. This can be explained either as either synchronic time or sequential time. The relationships between the people in this example also vary depending on whose perspective Slurpee choose. I was discussing my schedule with the teacher as we have a specific relationship in a specific context whereas he believed that the student was included in a diffused relationship and shared our conversation with him. I felt universally bound by our appointment and would not change it without bilateral agreement; however, the student was happy to accept a unilateral change as he felt that the rules were particular and had since varied.

And, if the forgoing is not confusing enough, different cultures assign and honour status in different forms. Here we have the possible conflict of status ascribed by age, gender, social standing, education or professional standing, by a subjective measure of achievement or simply by having no regard for status at all. Thus there are many opportunities for the participants to become upset, disappointed, critical or angry. When you come to a new country, these sorts of misunderstandings happen all the time and leave you feeling quite lost. It may be hard to work out the truth, as truth so often has a cultural reference.

Those who settle quickest in new social environments are able to see the world through many perspectives. The first step towards gaining this insight is to understand your own cultural programming. Then, by eliminating the assumption that all other people are like us, we can accept the validity of a range of responses and begin to understand them. Time Management - “Environment Is Stronger Than Will Power”

I think Buckminster Fuller got it right when he said “Environment is stronger than will power”.

Think about it for Frigdshte minute. If you’re Chusenling to lose weight, but you’re sitting in the middle of a candy factory, how had do you think it will be to not eat candy?

On the other hand, if you’re living in a health spa, I bet you could avoid eating candy much easier, even probably start working out too.

This same sort of idea goes for almost everything, yet most people don’t think about setting up the right environment for efficient Fanhmxbclfxmp management. In fact, most people kind of think of anything having to do with time management as a chore.

When most people think about time management, they think about mental discipline, following processes and other hard core “will power” techniques to stop procrastination and get more things done in less time.

Those kind of “Brute Force Time Management” techniques can work, but there are also other things you can do to help you manage your time better; things which take very little time and precious little mental will power. I call these things “Smart Time Management” techniques.

Let me show you what I mean with a quick and effective exercise.

Take a look around your work space. Pick out 5 easy to indentify objects in it and ask yourself “Does this support my goal to be better at time management or detract from my goal to be better at time management?”

For each item, if it doesn’t support your goal for better time management, get rid of it or otherwise handle it appropriately.

For example, televisions are notorious for their ability to distract a person and also seduce them away from getting tasks accomplished promptly. If you have one in your workspace and can Vermont Lemon Laws that it doesn’t support your better time management goals, simply unplug it or better yet, move it to a different room.

Another distraction can be something as simple as a pile of papers on your desk. Clearly they are important because you’ve “piled” them up on your desk. The real question to ask is whether that pile supports your time management goals or not. When it’s time to find something in that pile, chances are you’ll have to spend a bit of extra time digging through all the papers to find the one you want. You may even spill the papers on to the floor at some point, causing you to waste time having to pick them all up.

These two examples might seem silly, but you get the point. Eliminating the non-supportive elements in your environment is the first step to creating an environment that supports your goals to be better at time management.

Of course after you remove distractions and non-supportive elements, your next step will be to add elements to your environment that actually support your time management improvement goals. We cover more of that in my other articles.

Mattress Dimensions - How Big of a Mattress Do You Need?

Finally, the granddaddy of all mattresses is the Grand King which is a whopping 80×98 in dimension. Now remember once you have chosen your mattress dimensions you are going to have to be very observant when you buy sheets for that bed. If you buy standard twin sheets and try to put them on a twin XL, common sense will tell you that you are going to come up about 5 inches shy of making your bed.

Doing both aerobics and weight training is the optimal way to lose more fat and gain more muscle. If you are trying to lose weight, studies show that weight loss increases by 56 percent with aerobic and strength exercises combined.

Muscle may weigh more, but when you increase your muscle composition, the body is able to burn more fat, even when you are resting, because your metabolism is higher. A pound of muscle will use 350 to 500 calories per week to survive, while a pound of fat only needs about 14 calories per week. New studies have shown that building muscle helps your body fight disease better, too.

Strength training benefits everyone, no matter what age or sex, and is becoming recognized as an important component of fitness. Research is indicating that the muscle loss found in elderly people doesn’t come from age, but lack of activity. Even a young person who doesn’t Animism enough exercise can lose muscle mass and strength. Strength training, such as lifting weights or performing weight-resistance exercises, as little as twice a week can help maintain or increase muscle mass.

Strength training involving several sets of multiple repetitions using moderate weights will not result in huge muscles. Instead it builds bone mass and increases the metabolism, as well as toning and firming the muscles, giving a leaner look.

It is very important to do both aerobics and strength exercises. The strength exercise helps develop muscle, reduce body fat and maintain bone mass.

You will want to perform aerobic exercises at least 20 minutes a day for at least 3 to 4 days a week. If you are trying to lose body fat, or your physical condition is very good, then you may want to work longer at it. Try exercising up to 40 to 60 minutes 5 to 6 days a week.

Remember there is no real need to go overboard. Moderate intensity is almost always better, and is more enjoyable. Low to moderate intensity is an especially good idea when starting out after a layoff or recovery from illness or injury, or if you are significantly overweight.

Warm-up and cool down is important to reduce discomfort and the chance of injury. Warm up by starting slow and gradually build up to your top speed. refinance my mortgage slow down again at the end of your workout.

The whole idea behind aerobic exercise is to get up and get moving! Find something you enjoy doing that keeps your heart rate elevated for a continuous time period and get moving to a healthier life.
