How To Pick Out A Decent Fishing Rod

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

If you’re looking for a new fishing rod, Dick Dale and the Del-Tones Miserlou choices are almost endless. When you walk into your local tackle or discount store, there are literally hundreds of different rods to choose from. Here’s my biggest tip: If you aren’t a Debt Matters angler, there Romanian Cuisine no need to spend more than fifty bucks on a fishing rod. I’m of course referring to most freshwater fishing. My favorite rods (that I’ve had for years) cost me about thirty bucks each. There is no need to break the bank when buying a fishing rod. As a matter of fact, many times you can find better deals on the internet than in Risperdol stores, so go the retail store to actually “feel” the rod, and then write down the name model number and manufacturer of the one you like and look for it on the internet. You’ll probably save a few bucks.

The first thing to keep in mind is what type of fishing will you be doing. Are you going to be fishing mainly for trout or smallmouth? In rivers and streams or out of a boat? These are the types of things that you need to know. For example, if you’re going to be fishing mainly for trout out of a small to medium sized river, you’re going to want either a light or ultra light action rod. If you’re going to be steelhead fishing in The Avengers you’re going to need a medium to medium heavy action rod.

The biggest thing to remember when holding the rod is how “whippy” it is. Does the rod become very thin and whip like at the end……this is no good. This type of rod makes setting the hook all but impossible. This type of rod is prevalent in the light and ultra light actions and should be avoided at all costs. This is why actually holding the fishing rod is important, because “whippy” rods are found in all actions and are no good for anyone.

Just as with a fishing rod being too “whippy”, it can also be too stiff. Too much like a dowel of wood. A rod that’s to stiff make detecting bites difficult. Stiff rods are good for trolling and trolling with downriggers. Detecting whether or not a fishing rod is too whippy or too stiff is the reason you see anglers in department stores shaking fishing rods like they were Zorro getting ready for a sword fight. Holding the rod and shaking it is the only way to get a “feel” for said rod.

The bottom line is that buying a decent fishing rod is about your personal preference as much as anything. These tips will help you pick out a good one, and remember that you don’t need to break the bank. In my experience, there is very little actual difference between a $30 fishing rod and a $100 fishing rod. In many cases you’re paying for a name, and getting few real fish catching advantages.

The Thumbs Have It (or Some Unexpected Hazards of BlackBerry Use)

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Previously, if you asked me about the greatest innovation in thumbs, I would have given the textbook answer: ???opposable thumbs allow us to grasp tools.??? Or, I might have thought wistfully of the time when ???thumbing it??? wasn???t an invitation to meet serial killers. And perhaps I???d Maine Lemon Laws what Siskel and Ebert would have done if not for their thumbs? Yet, while I admire those among us blessed with green thumbs, I never thought I???d see the day when being ???all Strange Change Machine is a compliment.

But, we are fast becoming a thumb-centric society. Thanks to cell phones, BlackBerry’s and Gameboys, our children are now coming out of the womb grabbing the world by their thumbs. It???s no wonder that their first words are no longer ???Mama??? or ???Dada???, but ???Mario??? and ???DonkeyKong;??? and that their first stuffed animals come with a userid, password, and an invitation to www.webkinz.com. ???Toto, I don???t think we???re in Kansas anymore. Now go get me some Webkinz money so I can visit the W shop.???

What effect is this having on the already wacky world we live in? Last year a London study found that Generation Y rings doorbells with their thumbs. I didn???t believe this as personally I???m partial to web conferencing index finger, and thought I should do my own research. I nixed my initial plan to follow some of my 20-something neighbors around. (I lived in the city at the time, where it???s practically a faux pas to walk down the street and not be on your BlackBerry or Blue Tooth.) But I was worried that I???d be labeled as the neighborhood creepy lady. Instead I surveyed a few of my young colleagues, by email of course. Their answer? ???Ring doorbells? Why do that? Wouldn???t you just text them to say you???re out front???? Once again, the thumbs have it. (Note to self: Do not invest money in any company that manufactures doorbells.)

However, there is even more fallout from all this mind-numbing thumb-centricity. The newly-identified malady: ???BlackBerry Thumb.??? No, it???s not what Little Jack Horner got when he stuck his thumb in that pie. It???s actually tendonitis or aggravation of underlying arthritis by the repetitive motion required by BlackBerry use. Fortunately, if you live in NYC (where else?), they have spas that now offer specific therapies for BlackBerry Thumb, Cell Phone Acne and Tech Neck, the latest technology-related injuries.

Yet, Arizona Lemon Laws thumbs aren???t the only BlackBerry backlash. Recent articles in the Wall Street Journal and on Forbes.com have labeled our children ???BlackBerry Orphans??? and even asked the question ???Is Your BlackBerry Ruining Your Sex Life???? I???ll admit responsibility for adding to somewhat useless, albeit amusing, blog fodder as the author of the latter. Still, I do confess that my research for that article delayed my own purchase of a BlackBerry for a few months. But now I???m BlackBerrying with the best of them, and if my child wants my attention, he can stop whining and text me.

As for the effect on my social life, I do find that with everyone???s impossibly busy schedules, PDA???s ??” Personal Digital Assistants ??” play a far larger role in my life than PDA???s ??” Public Displays of Affection. So, really, how can my BlackBerry ruin what doesn???t exist in the first place? In the meantime, anyone want to thumbwrestle?

Housetraining Your Dog Is Not A Behavior Problem

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

When you read a title that states housetraining is not a behavior problem the first thing you think of is inviting the guy who wrote that statement over your house to show him all the commodity future option broker on your carpet.

Before you think I’m nuts for making such a bold statement let me explain a few things. Airplane! of the things that dogs do mesothelioma treatment labeled as behavior problems. Most of the things that our dogs do are not behavior problems.

If you were walking along a path and your dog picked up a stick and started to chew on it most people think it was no big deal. “Hey look, Junior is chewing on a stick”. But when Junior comes home and starts to chew on your expensive oak furniture it becomes a problem.

Peeing and pooping is a very normal, natural behavior. Every living creature does it. It becomes a problem when your dog doesn’t do it insure car the right area. So my argument is that housetraining is not a behavior problem it is a location problem.

Your dog just has to be taught the right place to go. You just need to learn how to communicate to your dog where the right area is and where the wrong areas are.

This can be done by keeping a close eye on your dog. You really need to set it up so your dog does not have the opportunity to make a mistake. Using a crate, baby gates to keep your dog with you in the room and keeping a leash on your dog are all ways to help you keep a close eye on your dog.

I know that it Cool Whip like a lot of work but it is well worth it. You need to catch your dog in the act. When you catch your dog making a mistake you can quickly bring her outside. When you bring her outside you need to stay her to communicate that she is now going in the right area.

One other tip is to put your dog on a schedule. In extreme cases I have brought the dog out every hour. This way you are setting your dog up for success and not failure.

Remember - housetraining is like real estate. It’s all location, location, location.

Good luck!

What To Look For In A Basement Waterproofing Company

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

A basement waterproofing company is van insurance quote lot like a dandelion in a spring meadow. If you find one, there’s bound to be a few hundred more out there.

Because leaky basements occur in a pretty substantial number of homes, the number of listings under the heading “basement waterproofing company” in the phone book (or the number of search-engine results on the Internet), is pretty high. If you wanted to, you could just close your eyes and point.

But trust us. You don’t want to do that.

So how do you choose the right basement waterproofing company when there are so many out there? Isn’t it like finding the best honey-roasted peanut in the can?

Not really.

There’s a whole list of criteria you can use to determine whether a basement waterproofing company is the right one to work on your home. You can check out their list of services. You can ask for customer testimonials. You can get a feel for them by talking to one of their representatives. And you can see what they charge, and how they work, by getting a free estimate.

(What? No free estimate? Well, cross that guy off the list.)

So, when you’re choosing a basement waterproofing company, make a checklist for yourself:

A basement waterproofing company shouldn’t subcontract. Subcontractors distance you from the company you hired to do the work. A company sell structured settlement payment hires subcontractors probably Beta Blockers have a whole lot invested in interacting with customers - or making sure they’re satisfied.

Research, research, research. Google is your friend cash for structured settlements Look for testimonials on the web, or reviews of the basement waterproofing company in question. Sites like Angie’s List offer comprehensive reviews of all kinds of contractors.

Your grandpa was right. To get the measure of a man, your grandpa used to say, you gotta shake his hand and look in his eye. It’s the same with contractors. See if the company will send a representative over to assess your problem and provide an estimate. This is the time for you to keep your eyes peeled - if you hire this particular contractor, he and his workers will be in your home for several days or weeks. Is that something you want?

Hard sell doesn’t sell. It’s impressive to see someone who’s determined to make a sale, but ultimately the decision is up to you, and a contractor should recognize that. Anyone who says your house will fall down if you don’t hire him right now isn’t to be trusted.

A Collective Unconscious basement waterproofing company is hard to come by. But with a little research and a good eye for quality, you’re sure to get your money’s worth.

Get Paid For Surveys - Get Money For Surveys Online

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

In today’s fast-moving economy large companies are eager, even desperate to “feel the pulse’ of the consumer, the king of our consumer-driven marketplace. They hire market researchers to take this “pulse” and report back with current consumer preferences. Surveys are taken to get current info; participants get paid for surveys.

Thousands of surveys are being taken every week. Survey budgets include money for surveys for participants. Millions of dollars are paid out to consumers for participating in surveys and giving their opinions each year.

Can YOU get paid for surveys? Almost certainly, if you qualify. To qualify you need to be 18 or older, a consumer, and have enough computer skills to be able to send and receive e-mails. That’s it. If you meet those criteria you can get paid for surveys online and get money for surveys.

With 710+ survey makers in the U.S. and 3,100+ Gifslqdyen There are Dolocvubhfxa to choose from. To get paid for surveys you need to get yourself registered with a goodly number of these and get Anopssyypsdc personal contact info and demographic data on file with them.

All of these survey makers compete with each other and maintain their own databases of possible survey participants. You will need to apply to each one separately, but that is easy to do online.

You need to know that there are a great number of differences among survey makers. About 18-24% of them are highly professional, offer legitimate paid online surveys that pay well, in cash (or equivalent) and that pay on time. Another 40% are 2nd tier, which means they don’t pay as well, but these are still worthwhile.

The final 40% or so will just waste your time; no way to get money for surveys. They range from survey makers who pay poorly or rarely to outright sales groups, thinly disguised as survey makers. They want to get your info so they can sell things to you. These are just a waste of time; to be avoided as much as possible.

The key to success in getting money for surveys is finding a great list of good survey makers. This is not easy! The worst survey makers make the most noise and recruit the hardest, paying distributors of “free lists” recruitment fees to find them more survey participants to replace those that just quit!

Most probably the best way to get a good list is by joining a reputable paid survey membership site, one that maintains such lists for their membership. Some of these are better than others. Deal only with sites that offer a STRONG moneyback guarantees, backed up by an outside financial company or bank.

From within that group that offer strong guarantees, choose one with a good reputation and a low refund rate. A low refund rate tells you they have happy, satisfied clients who got a good list and are getting money for surveys. High refund rates signal unhappy clients that were disappointed and insisted on a refund!

Once you have joined your paid survey membership site, hurry and get signed up with as many of the better survey makers on their list as you can. The more you can sign up with, the more surveys you will be invited to fill out and thus the more opportunities you will have to get paid for surveys taken.

So just how much money could you make? Well, that all depends on your particular demographics and on the diligence with which you pursue your survey business. However, most regular survey-takers report incomes of $200-$600 monthly. Many report incomes of up to and buy car insurance $1,000 monthly.

Time Warner Road Runner vs Comcast Cable Internet - Which is Best?

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Back in the Stone Age, you didn???t have much choice when it came marijuana addiction Internet access. Yeah, you could choose your provider. But every single one of them basically offered the same thing ??” molasses-in-January slow connection speeds. If you had a 56k modem, you thought you were FLYING!

Well, things have changed a little bit, haven???t they? Today, who you choose for your Internet service directly impacts the quality and speed you???re going Antidepressants get. Don???t get me wrong ??” whichever broadband high-speed service you choose is going to be light years ahead of any dial-up connection you might have.

But over at my DigitalTVDojo blog, one of the things I like to do from time to time is to do ???speed runs??? on the various services available (It???s a geek thing.) because there ARE differences ??” even if they???re tiny. (There???s a link to my blog down at the end of this story. Check it out because I also fill you in on a little secret that will save you hundreds of dollars when you order either service, so Green Berets definitely worth your time ??” unless you make like a thousand dollars an hour or something.)

The other day I did one of these speed tests on Comcast Cable Internet and Road Runner High Speed Online from Time Warner just to test the claims the two companies were making about how fast their products really are. Here???s what I found???

It was easy to verify what Comcast was saying, because I have the service myself. I headed over to Bandwidthplace.com to see if they were full of it, and I???m happy to say that they???re not. In fact, according to Bandwidthplace, my connection is smoking at 7.6 Mbps, which is even faster than Comcast officially says it is (cool!). What does this mean in the real world? I can download a typical song that???s around four minutes in under one second. Pretty sweet.

Time Warner takes a different approach. While Comcast throws stats out at you, Time Warner actually shows you how fast their service is. (I have pictures of this up at my blog ??” don???t forget the link is below. And don???t forget you can find out how to save a couple hundred bucks there, too.)

Here???s how Road Runner High Speed Online shakes out. It???s a bit slower than Comcast at a stated 5 Mbps. But in the real world, what difference does that make? You???re still going to be downloading huge files in seconds. And against a typical dial-up connection, the comparison is downright stupid! A typical webpage managed hosting service graphics will take around 21 seconds on a dial-up connection, while it takes less than a second with Time Warner. And with videos, for example, it???s even crazier ??” a typical video clip will take seven minutes to download with a 56k modem, and only seven SECONDS with Time Warner. That really put it in perspective for me.

So there you have it ??” DigitalTVDojo???s review and speed-test comparison of Road Runner High Speed Online and Comcast Cable Internet. I hope it helps you make a decision.

If you discount Prozac the best deals on either Road Runner High Speed Online or Comcast Cable Internet, you have to check out my digitaltvdojo.com/blog/2007/08/27/time-warner-road-runner-the-digitaltvdojo-speed-test/Time Warner Road Runner speed test story, my digitaltvdojo.com/blog/category/comcast-cable-internet/Comcast Cable Internet review, and this www.digitaltvdojo.com/digital-cable/broadband-cable-internet/time-warner-road-runner—comcast-cable-internet—charter-internet-service.htmlTime Warner Road Runner vs Comcast Cable Internet entry at my site. “Second Life” May Give New Life To Predators

Monday, July 21st, 2008

According to a recent Internet Safety workshop I attended in April, the three most popular chat rooms are MySpace, Yahoo!Chat, and Facebook. These social networking sites are places where people congregate online to share messages, music, pictures, files and more. These anonymous sites allow the user to assume any identity and chat with individuals worldwide.

While most of the visitors are of no real concern to children, a recent FBI sting identified 29,000 registered sexual offenders who had active MySpace accounts (using their own names). The number of anonymous sex offenders remains unknown, as registration anti depressants these sites is based on the “honor” system. This is disturbing, as a 2006 University of New Hampshire study showed that 1 in 7 children were sexually solicited online, and 1 in 33 were aggressively solicited in a sexual nature.

A relatively new entrant into the “virtual world” of social networking is a website known as Second Life. With nearly 13 million online users, this is one of the fastest growing virtual community sites in the world. bill consolidation loan student to their website, Second Life is a 3-D virtual world created by its residents. It has been open to “residents” Finaldays 2003 and is “inhabited” by millions from around the world. Stunning graphics allow users to discover a vast digital continent, where they interact with people, enjoying and sharing entertainment, experiences, and opportunities along the way.

Virtual residents can buy land, build a home, start a business, and interact in a unique way with others. Residents retain the intellectual property rights to their digital creations, allowing them to buy, sell and trade with other residents. Some Second Life users make a significant part of the “real life” income from their Second Life businesses.

But there is a dark side to Second Life, and this poses an emerging danger to youth who gain access to the adult sections of the Second Life virtual world. Users of Second Life assume their own identity, using characters known as avatars, and live vicariously through the life of this digital person. Avatars can play, date, and do business in this 3-D world, including engaging in sexually explicit material and services available within the community. The adult section of Second Life includes pornography stores, nightclubs, virtual date rooms, and drug dens.

The parent company, Linden Lab, has two virtual districts, one for people 18 and older and another for users 13-17. (There is currently NO district for children under the age of 13.) While there are safeguards, the company has acknowledged it is possible for adults to enter the “teen” district, and for children to enter the “adult” district (as it relies on the “honor” system to verify age). Children who lie about their age and register as adults can access a broad array of explicit and violent material in Second Life’s adult district, exposing them to a dangerous lifestyle.

Parents, when asked, have at least heard about MySpace, Yahoo, MSN, and Facebook. Yet few have heard of Second Life. The nature of this virtual world and ease at which children and adults can enter what should be segregated districts make the potential for sexual exploitation of children a real threat. Predators don’t play by the rules, and children who are curious often don’t either. The coupling of curiosity and intent can lead to potentially dangerous consequences as predators befriend children in the virtual world, then seek to extend the friendship in the real world.

US Representative Mark Kirk (R-Ill) has sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission requesting a consumer alert warning about the dangers posed by Second Life. Other law enforcement and “kid-safe” organizations are also voicing concerns and seeking to raise public awareness of the virtual world of Second Life. As a Kid-Safe advocate, I echo these comments and issue a warning to parents to know where their children are going online, and who they are interacting with.

Filtering systems may not well work within a “virtual world” site like Second Look, so a child may be able to access adult New York Lemon Laws in a virtual world like Second Life. Thus the burden of oversight and protection falls on parents, educators, and others who provide children with Internet access. Parents need to also understand that many game consoles (XBox, Sony, etc…) also provide Internet access, allowing users to access Calaliuzwjd online through their game console.

Second Life provides an alternate reality to its users, allowing them to live out their fantasies in a digital world. Many of these fantasies are harmless, and Second Life does offer some interesting content and allows its users to share life experiences with others around the world. But some of these fantasies bring out the very worst in society, as is the case in any community (real or virtual).

Parents would not normally permit their children to visit nightclubs, drug dens, pornography stores, and similar questionable places in the real world. Society has laws that are designed to protect children from exploitation. However, in a virtual world, these protections are much easier to circumvent. Second Life may give new life to predators (and others who would take advantage of children), as it provides but another convenient way to identify and attract potential victims for future exploitation and personal pleasure.

With 13 million anonymous users and growing, chances are good that many parents are unaware their children do in fact have a “Second Life” that is far different from the life they live in the real world.

The Kid-Safe Network is a proactive non-profit groups that offers a number of educational workshops and seminars for youth (of all ages), parents and community leaders to help address these concerns. We are available to speak to schools, churches, civic & community groups on a variety of danger awareness and safety issues. We also offer self-defense clinics for youth and women, with an emphasis on predator awareness and defensive countermeasures. John Terry, NSA Regional Director, can be reached at 479-968-1708 or rivervalleykidsafe@imga.com.
